In addition, the foundation awards scholarships to current and former employees’ children and grandchildren to further their education.
The Sheldon Shapiro Charitable Foundation was established soon after CEO, Sheldon Shapiro’s untimely death in February 2019. Following his final wishes, his estate provided seed capital to the Foundation. Along with generous donations from the community, the Foundation is able to create a self-sustaining organization to support future professionals with training and educational scholarships as well as supporting local causes near and dear to his heart.
Sheldon began his career in 1983 and rose through the ranks as a Project Manager, Director of Operations and Vice President/Project Executive. In 2008, he guided Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. as CEO through promotional and leadership training, professional development, team building and outreach activities. In addition, he oversaw operations of the Accounting and Construction Departments. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s of Science in Fire Protection Engineering. He was an avid terps fan and was an active board member of DC Students Construction Trades Foundation.
Sheldon’s family, friends and colleagues will always remember him for his kindness. His desire to assist others was evident in his everyday actions and will live on through the Foundation for generations to come.
